Airtel 3G pan - India rollout will be in partnership with rivals

Posted: 27 Sep 2010 03:03 AM PDT

The following info is from the Sancharnet (BSNL) trade union website who in turn got it from Telecom news|Vas Tariff|GSM CDMA GPRS|mobile news|Applicatioans|Indian Telecom Industry|Breaking news|VOIP|3G website :

Bharti Airtel India's largest telecom operator is in talks with his prominent rivals including Vodafone and Idea Cellular to form a strategic partnership for providing a platform for 3G services on a pan-India level as none of the private operator managed to bag 3G spectrum for all 22 of India's telecom circles in the May 2010 auction .
Bharti, Vodafone and Idea are all joint stakeholders in Indus Towers ( A tower company ), which would enable them to share basic infrastructure for their respective 3G rollouts, and should the trio join forces they would have 3G spectrum covering all of India's telecoms circles bar Orissa.
Mr. Sanjay Kapoor Airtel's chief executive confirmed that talks were on with major operators. "The very fact that the 3G auctions have been a fractured verdict leaves a lot of opportunity for collaboration. All preparations are on to make sure we offer pan-Indian 3G experience to our customers. By and large, usage alliances will happen within the government rules and regulation." While he did not confirmed the identities of the other parties his firm was in talks with, he did state that Bharti expects to have any proposed partnership in place before the launch of 3G services, which is scheduled for December 2010.
Bharti acquired 2×5MHz paired spectrum in 13 circles in the much-delayed 3G sale process, paying INR 122.95 billion (USD2.66 billion), the highest paid by any of the seven 3G auction winners.

On the same Sancharnet union website BSNL trade union leaders have asked BSNL employees to become more efficient or face a drop in BSNL subscribers !

You need to do nothing except change the APN in your 3G datacard software to bsnlnet and access internet via *99# telephone number.

Regarding Ubuntu no idea .

Posted: 27 Sep 2010 02:55 AM PDT

Hi Friends,

Im in Al Ain, UAE. I'm Using COSHIP old setup box. 25-09-2010 technician changed my dish direction to measat but the software was not upgraded even we tried to update many times and no channels available in that direction without update. After that i asked him to bring back the dish direction to insat 4b in the mid night i tried manually to update the software and it updated now. My technician refused to come to change the dish direction, even i told that i will pay you extra!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Is it possible to change the dish direction from Insat 4B to Measat by ourself.

Pics looks good, so would be stadium no doubt. But we cant close eyes on alleged corruption. And also it is true that bridge collapsed, and facilities were not upto mark as per international standards earlier. Hopefully atleast now facilities would be improved.

First - Driving Lesson

Are you nostalgic about the first car you learnt to drive on?

I learnt driving on my Father's Ambassador Mark II. My dad and I would go to open grounds early in the morning and he taught me how to drive. Right from the steering, to the gears to the clutch and break... my dad and his ambassador were a part of my driving classes. How many of you feel nostalgic about your first drive?

But for your reference you can browse through the links below:
http://broadbandforum.in/airtel-mobi...e-edge-speeds/

Otherwise EDGE can carry a bandwidth up to 236.8 Kbps(Ref: Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). which is about 30 kBps but practically users here get about 20-25 kBps or maybe a little more

O yeah.I have posted some messages in that thread also a long time back which I forget !

Airtel fair usage policy

It's all about the peering. One thing India *could* look at doing is what NZ did a few years ago: no charges for domestic traffic - that is traffic to/from Indian IP addresses (or at least servers in data centres) should NOT be charged.

To do this, naturally, the NIXI tariff scheme would have to change, but since the 15GB limit (or whatever) would apply only to International traffic, free domestic traffic would benefit pretty much everyone except torrent users, however it would provide the following additional benefits:
  • Indian Content currently hosted in the US could come "home" to India
  • Indian Content Hosting Industry could finally come in to it's own - so supporting services such as described in #3 and #4 could start and come alive
  • ISPs would have a LOT of incentives to cache stuff - even more than they do now - because by working together or prioritizing peered traffic over international, they would reduce strain on their own resources, reduce costs and get less shit from consumers about FUPs
  • Businesses would be able to send large files to each other (or between branches) much easier, or do more video conferencing
  • E-governance might actually stand a chance at working
  • Streaming TV services could emerge, not unlike "TVNZ - On Demand"
  • Other video-based applications could be used properly (conferencing, education etc)
  • Software distributors might be inclined to host a mirror in India. EVER WONDERED WHY THERE IS NO SOURCEFORGE MIRROR IN INDIA?
  • Overall speeds advertised could be much higher than they are now. They could advertise 8, 12 or 16mbit/s and in many cases (where it counts), actually deliver it. For the same prices as they do now

Of course, in some cases, also some pretty serious law changes surrounding TV, VOIP, censorship etc would be required, but the peering is a start.
