no sound from PC

Hi All, can anyone help me solve this problem. I was previously using windows XP SP2 and recently formatted and installed SP3 but i've since not been able to hear sound from my PC. I've disabled, uninstalled and re-installed my drivers, i've performed system restore but i'm still not able to get my sound back. Does this mean my sound card is broken. Please advice Thanks

I am using X58 Pro-E with the new bios update of version 8.3, 3x1GB G. Skill-RAM. Basically, I cleared the CMOS many times. The BIOS is updated, etc. But I see only 2 GB of RAM in Dual Channel mode. After I upgrade my system to Windows 7 64-bit operating system, I loss to find a nvidia driver. That will not cause the BSOD or display a checkerboard pattern requiring me to reboot my system.
